Jakarta, July 28, 2025 - In the Active Generation era, technology has become an inseparable part of daily life. However, behind the convenience it offers, the global electronic waste (e-waste) crisis continues to threaten. Every year, the world generates more than 62 million tons of e-waste, with only 22% being responsibly recycled. As a tangible commitment to ESG, particularly in the environmental and social pillars, Urban Republic has introduced the UR Zero Waste initiative, an e-waste management program that encourages public participation in responsibly recycling electronic devices while creating real impact for the environment and society.
"Through UR Zero Waste, we want to prove that small actions by the active generation can create significant impact when done collectively. Every donated used gadget is a real contribution to the environment and future technological advancement," said Djohan Sutanto, CEO of Erajaya Active Lifestyle.
First Phase Results: The Active Generation's Tangible Contribution
In its first phase, UR Zero Waste successfully collected 301 units of electronic waste, with the largest composition coming from:
- Cables (32.6%)
- Earphones (10.6%)
- Smartphones (7.6%)
Through this collection, the program successfully reduced carbon emissions by 2,760 kg CO₂e, equivalent to planting 131 trees or saving up to 5,800 kWh of electricity.
This initiative is not merely a solution to e-waste problems, but also strengthens Urban Republic's commitment to supporting Smart Ecosystem Preservation as part of Erajaya Active Lifestyle's ESG strategy and focus. Through an ESG-based (Environmental, Social, Governance) approach, this program prioritizes responsible waste management, energy efficiency, and active community involvement in maintaining environmental sustainability.
Collaboration for a Better Environment
UR Zero Waste invites the public to donate used electronic devices such as cables, power banks, smartphones, and laptops through e-waste dropboxes currently available at five Urban Republic outlets:
- Summarecon Mall Serpong
- Pondok Indah Mall
- Senayan City
- Kota Kasablanka
- Lippo Mall Puri
Additionally, this program is also present at the Jumbara PMR DKI Jakarta 2025 event, as an effort to expand reach and increase public participation in e-waste management. As a form of appreciation, every donor is entitled to shopping vouchers, with five selected participants receiving special vouchers.
This initiative aligns with the spirit of the Active Generation: a generation that is aware, caring, and always moving forward. Urban Republic invites all parties to make digital lifestyles part of the solution, as efficiency and productivity must go hand in hand with environmental sustainability.
